This important archaeological area, recently declared a Site of Cultural Interest of Galicia, is located in San Vicente do Grove next to O Carreiro beach. The site, fenced by a fence, presents numerous remains from the Roman and early medieval period of great archaeological, scientific and cultural interest.
In superimposed layers we have:
-An ancient Roman salting plant
-The floor plan of a church
-Elements of a fortification from the Late Middle Ages
-A burial necropolis
This archaeological site is also a strategic point of the Jacobean tradition, since it was in this precise place where the oldest coin was found with the representation of the transfer of the body of Santiago or Traslatio on one of its sides.
Currently, the University of Vigo is carrying out various actions at the site thanks to financing from the Department of Culture of the regional government.
