El Padre Sarmiento was the creator of this variant of the Portuguese Way through the region of O Salnés. The Dominican monk returned from Madrid to make a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in 1745 and documented his 190-kilometre itinerary in the work Viaje a Galicia. The beautiful route, baptized with his name, follows the coast between the estuaries of Pontevedra and Arousa; starts at the O Burgo bridge and continues along Poio, Sanxenxo, O Grove, Mean, Cambados, To Illa de Arousa, Vilanova de Arousa, Vilagarcía de Arousa, Catoira, Valga and Pontecesuris. From there it converges with the Portuguese Way until it reaches the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.

Stages 1, 2 and 4 of this route pass through the municipality of Sanxenxo.

Step 1: Pontevedra-Sanxenxo (25,4 km, 5,51 km per municipality of Sanxenxo).
